What is a Bed Turning at Adaland?
Adaland Mansion is including at new feature to a traditional Quilt Show. A Bed turning is a guest speaker event at a quilt show. Adaland has invited Fran Kordek to be our guest speaker at this years event. Fran will bring with her 6 quilts to display on a bed on our pavilion. Each quilt will be placed on the bed, one on top of another, where they will be discussed. When the top quilts discussion is finished the quilt is folded back and the next quilt is talked about. Some of the topics in the discussions can include, the history or the quilt, the images used in the quilt, the way it was made and the fabrics and materials that were used to construct the quilt.
Fran is widely known for her quilts and here is a bit about her:
Fran Kordek of Morgantown WV, formerly of Elkins WV, has been making and designing quilts since 1974. She is both a National Quilting Association (NQA) Certified Teacher (2003 Teacher of the Year) and Certified Judge. Her work has been exhibited and has won awards on the regional and national levels and has been published in several magazines. Although now retired from 30+ year of teaching quilt making, Fran successfully introduced hundreds of students to the joys of quilting. Her judging has taken her to shows in nine states, as well as three NQA Show
